DENNIS GOLDING

Fondation Opale welcomes Dennis Golding for a talk about his artistic practice and as part of his residency at the Lens art centre for 6 weeks. 

Dennis Golding is an artist born and raised on Gadigal Country, with ancestral ties to Kamilaroi/Gamilaraay Country (Northwest NSW) and Biripi Country (Mid North Coast NSW). Exploring lived experience and childhood memory, his practice critiques social, political and cultural representations of race and identity. 

Working across painting, photography, sculpture and installation, Dennis draws on his urban upbringing from the inner-Sydney Aboriginal community of Redfern, often referred to as ‘The Block’, to the southeastern shores of Bidjigal Country. His early creative influences include watching his mother and grandmother paint large-scale works depicting Australian native flora and fauna, cultural motifs and human figures. 

Dennis developed his professional practice through mentorships with leading curators, educators and artists, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) from UNSW Art & Design in 2019. He works independently as an artist, curator and graphic designer. 

Through his curatorial and artistic practice, Dennis aims to bring forward powerful representations of contemporary Aboriginal cultural identity, deepening understanding of history, place and lived experience.
