French artist Jean-Marc Bustamante, member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Paris, will be at Fondation Opale for a discussion with Ulrich Loock, art critic and historian, former director of the Kunsthalle Bern.

Artists are no longer alone in the world – they are now at its center. This world is global, prompting the need to invent a new narrative, leaving no one behind. Ultimately, if everything is equal, let’s evaluate, compare, and even relativise the art of yesterday and today. What will become tomorrow’s art?

The art world has become cultural. Yet, art is what we create, and culture is what is created for us. This reflection brings artists face-to-face not with what to paint, but how to paint it. If the origin of its expression loses importance, artists should not be afraid to let themselves drift. Their art becomes their place, leading them to lose and rediscover themselves, like a dazzling spinning top that twirls on itself while moving, waiting for its fall.
