Robert Fielding – Biography
Born in 1969 and the youngest of 12 siblings, Robert Fielding draws his commitment as an artist from the diversity of his origins. His mother, an Afghan and Aboriginal descendant, and his Aboriginal father educated him in a mixed culture: Western and traditional Aboriginal. As a child, Robert Fielding’s father was taken away from his mother and placed in a boarding school, joining the dark side of contemporary Australian history known as the “stolen generations”.
His heritage and family are a major influence of Fielding’s work. He works with several media (including painting, new media, installations and especially photography) and explores the changes that have taken place in the traditional culture of the central desert.
Robert Fielding was awarded the Grand Prize for Photographic Works on Paper at the Darwin Museum in 2015 and 2017 as part of the Telstra NATSIAA Award.
