LORIS MITTAZ
10.09.2026To mark the Geneva Fast, pianist Loris Mittaz will be at Fondation Opale with his album Black Out, a deeply personal and narrative work.
Following two critically acclaimed EPs released in 2023, Loris Mittaz released his first solo album, Black Out, in October 2025. Recorded at the beginning of the year, Black Out is a profound and immersive work, deeply rooted in his life journey. Blending classical influences, jazz accents and contemporary touches, the album features artistic collaboration from Mathieu Herzog, who created the string arrangements.
“In the past, my eyes would wander through these places. Today, it is my piano that guides me in experiencing them differently.”
When Loris Mittaz speaks about illness, it is to explain how his vulnerability has been transformed into an intense and powerful source of inspiration. His music, intimately connected to his personal journey, conveys an authentic artistic force, at once classical and eclectic, establishing his distinctive musical voice.
Originally from Chermignon in the Swiss Alps, Loris Mittaz learnt at the age of eight that a degenerative disease would inevitably cause him to lose his sight. Faced with this challenge, he found refuge and a powerful means of expression in music. The piano became his language, a space where he could transcend physical limitations and convey what matters most: the power of emotion.
Trained first in classical music and later in jazz, his playing has evolved over the years through a search for meaning and a distinctive artistic sensibility. Both intimate and universal, his music invites audiences to close their eyes and allow images to emerge from sound. His piano, “a close friend” as he likes to call it, has remained by his side throughout every stage of his artistic journey.
Loris Mittaz is also distinguished by his eclectic approach to music, opening up new sonic horizons. Since the age of 15, he has been involved in numerousprojects and collaborations, moving effortlessly between different musical styles.
