Bernard Blistène, curator and former Director of the Musée national d’art moderne – Centre Pompidou, will be at Fondation Opale to continue his conference series. He will explore artistic creation from an intimate perspective, drawing on personal stories and memories, and will speak about his friendship with Georg Baselitz.

Bernard Blistène and Georg Baselitz, the renowned German painter, sculptor and printmaker, crossed paths many times before a deep friendship formed during the major retrospective that the Centre Pompidou dedicated to Baselitz between 2021 and 2022, curated by Bernard Blistène. Their many conversations about Baselitz’s works and his passions for Mannerism and African arts allowed the curator to discover unique insight into one of the most fascinating and erudite artists of his time.

Now Professor Emeritus at the Berlin University of the Arts, Georg Baselitz lives and works in Munich. He is recognized as one of the most important post-war artists, and his distinctive practice is marked by his iconic “upside-down” paintings, drawn and painted with bold, sweeping brushstrokes.
