BERNARD BLISTENE – MY FRIEND GERHARD RICHTER
27.03.2026Now aged 94, Gerhard Richter is undoubtedly one of the most renowned painters in the world. Since 1962, addressing subjects drawn from both documentary and personal sources, he has developed an immense body of work that tirelessly questions and blurs the boundaries between painting and photography. Combining rigour and lyricism in his method, Richter has described art as “the highest form of hope.”
Bernard Blistène, curator and honorary director of the Musée national d’Art moderne – Centre Pompidou, reflects here on his many exchanges with the artist, with whom he organised one of Richter’s very first solo exhibitions in France in 1984.
