The Key of Dreams – Surrealist Masterpieces from the Hersaint Collection
29.03.2025Swiss Made Culture, in partnership with Fondation Opale, presents an off-site event at Cinécran.
Encounter with Evangéline Hersaint Lair in dialogue with Raphaël Bouvier, Senior Curator, Beyeler Foundation, Riehen/Basel.
For the first time worldwide, from February 16 to May 4, 2025, the Fondation Beyeler presents the Surrealist masterpieces of the Hersaint Collection. The exhibition brings together around 50 major works by artists such as Salvador Dalí, Max Ernst, René Magritte, Joan Miró, Pablo Picasso, Man Ray, Dorothea Tanning, and many more. These artworks explore themes dear to Surrealism, including dreams, the unconscious, metamorphosis, and the forest as a place of mystery. The collection was established by banker Claude Hersaint, who purchased his first Max Ernst painting when he was just 17, laying the groundwork for a lifelong passion for Surrealism that would result in one of the most significant collections of Surrealist art. The paintings from the Hersaint Collection will be presented in dialogue with works from the Fondation Beyeler.
