In this evening of cultural sharing, two Maori opera singers, soprano Natasha Te Rupe Wilson and bass Morgan-Andrew King perform a series of Maori waiata (musical artworks) ranging from traditional to modern folk songs, chants and dance.

Journey through the roots of Maori culture, with both singers showcasing their spiritual and genealogical connection to their tribes and ties to nature through musical artworks. Tied together alongside New Zealand’s   national holiday ‘Waitangi Day’, this concert weaves a dialogue of ongoing cultural struggles and endeavours. Explore a visual and aural showcase of what defines one’s connection with an indigenous Māori lens.

Natasha Te Rupe Wilson (Te Arawa, Ngā Puhi) is a soprano trained in New Zealand and the United States. She studied classical vocal performance at the University of Auckland, where she earned a Bachelor of Music with First Class Honours, before undertaking advanced vocal training at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

Morgan-Andrew King is a Māori bass from Tahaaroa, in the Waikato region of New Zealand. Trained in classical singing in both New Zealand and the United States, he completed advanced operatic studies at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia after earning a Bachelor of Music with First Class Honours from Te Kōkī New Zealand School of Music. His artistic development has been supported by several prestigious scholarships and high-level mentorship programmes, and he notably took part in the New Zealand Opera School in 2021 and 2023.
